We are saddened by the passing of our mother Esther Ehrlich (11/8/1927-2/9/2021). Esther moved from Westchester County 12 years ago and purchased her first home in Plattsburgh to be close to her son, daughter-in-law, and their children. Esther loved her children and grandchildren, and spoke to her daughter, sister, and brother every day. She was close to her nieces and nephews and looked forward to their visits
A wonderful cook, Esther enjoyed hosting family dinners and was especially proud of “her cognac chicken.” As a small business owner, Esther ran a successful fabric and notions business known throughout Westchester county. A passionate shopper, Esther claimed “I breathe better in Lord & Taylor.” She was a voracious reader; consuming the New York Times and New York Daily News from front to back, and she was never without a mystery novel.
Anyone who met “Queen” Esther can attest to her ability to make a lasting impression, as well as her sharp wit, intelligence, and charismatic personality. Throughout her life, Esther was strong-willed, outspoken, and principled. She loved discussing politics, travel, interior design, and Jamie Fraser. Born and raised in the Bronx, she grew up surrounded by her family including her younger brother and sister, collectively referred to as the “Three Musketeers.” On a blind date, Esther met the love of her life Abraham and they married in June 1957. They traveled the world together; loving their times on cruises, card nights with their many friends, and movies followed by “coffee and.”
Esther is survived by her sister, Shirley Siegel, son, Jeffrey Ehrlich, daughter-in-law Ona Belser, daughter Irene Fischer, son-in-law Robert Fischer, grandchildren, Jodi, Jeffrey, Michelle, Janna, and Sarah, great-granddaughter Leah, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Minnie and Sam Siegel, husband, Abraham Ehrlich, her brother, Dani Siegel and nephew, Marc Schneiderman.
She was interred at Mount Ararat in East Farmingdale, New York on February 14, 2021. A special thank you to the wonderful nurses at Hospice of the North Country, as well as to Dr. Laura Carbone, Mary Jo Sweet, and Carla Hausrath. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the North Country.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
