Eva Slattery Martin, 91, of Plattsburgh, passed away unexpectedly on May 22, while at the home of her daughter, Maureen who survives her.
Eva was born on December 30,1927, in Standish, New York. She was the daughter of William and Eva (Alexander) Slattery. In 1952, she married Morris R. Martin who predeceased her in 1996.
She attended Lyon Mountain High School, and completed her Masters in Education at Plattsburgh State.
Eva finished her 40 year career at Momot Elementary where she found her greatest joy and success as a remedial reading teacher.
Once retired, she created one-woman shows as “Miss Rumphius” and “Mary Cassatt” to continue to teach love of reading and the love of making the world beautiful to many school classes, and organizations.
Eva was a member of the CVRT, Monty Street Supper Club, Kent-Delord Garden Club,Tuesday Club, and PARC. Eva was a dedicated art docent at SUNY Plattsburgh for many years.
Calling hours at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh on May 31 from 5-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 1st at St. John’s in Plattsburgh at 11am. Interment will be at St. Mary’s of the Lake Cemetery.
