Our beloved mother, Mrs. Evangeline “Lina” Radimak, a resident of Cliff Haven, passed away on September 17, 2019 following a debilitating illness.
She was born April 24, 1928 in Quebec City, the daughter of Germain Chiasson and Blanche-Philomene Daigle Chiasson.
At the time of her wedding in Quebec City on December 13, 1952 to Edward Radimak, a career U.S. Navy man, Lina was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Evangeline was educated by the Sisters of Sainte Chrétienne in Quebec City, then enrolled at the Thomas Institute for a two-year business course. She was a medical secretary prior to joining the service. Years later, in order to catch up with her college graduate children, she became a student at Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh, and in 1976 earned her degree in business management.
Over the years, Lina participated in a variety of volunteer activities, including serving as a French teacher at St. John’s Elementary School and AARP Membership Chairperson, working with the Community Food Shelf, Retired Senior Volunteers Program, Altar Rosary Society, and the American Military Retirees Association Auxiliary. She was a member since 1971 of the Cliff Haven Home Dem, a neighborhood organization that was very dear to her.
Lina is survived by three sons, Ronald Radimak of Plattsburgh, Pierre Radimak of Menands, NY, and Edward G. Radimak and his wife Yasemine of Rome, NY; a daughter, Elma Sprague and her husband Ray of Scotia, NY.
Mrs. Radimak’s survivors also include step-brother Andre Chevarie and his wife of Quebec City; brother-in-law Amable Naud of Quebec City; nieces Nina Lavoie, Stella Lavoie, and Nicole Leduc and her husband Michel, all of Montreal; nephews Serge Lavoie and Sam Lavoie and his wife Diane of Montreal; Ghislain Naud and his wife Claire and Marcel Naud and his wife Line of Quebec City.
Lina Radimak is survived as well by six grandchildren: Steven Sprague and his wife Judi (Albany, NY), Scott Sprague and his wife Tiffany (Phoenix, AZ), Michelle Sprague-Arreola and her husband Valentin Arreola (Scotia, NY), Neil, Sue Ann and Nathaniel Radimak (Rome, NY); two great-grandsons, Nathan Sprague (Albany, NY) and Clark Brice (Scotia, NY); and a great-granddaughter, Skylar Sprague (Albany, NY).
Evangeline is also survived by several Acadian relatives from les Iles de la Madeleine, P.Q., the birthplace of her father.
Lina is predeceased by her husband, Edward Radimak; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Germain Chiasson; sisters Bernadette Lavoie, Marie Raymonde Chiasson, and Rose Alma Naud; step-sisters Georgette Sanson and Denise Bartos; step-brother Gabriel Chevarie; her stepmother, Madame Germain Chevarie-Chiasson; her mother-in-law, Mary Radimak; as well as brothers-in-law Paul Lavoie, Jerry Radimak, Joe Radimak, Frank Radimak, Marvin Radimak, and Steve Radimak; and sister-in-law Hilda Alighire.
Evangeline’s family would to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of the North Country staff as well as Dr. Stephen Hausrath and his staff for the care and support they provided.
At Mrs. Radimak’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019 at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country or to St. John’s Church.
