Florence Helen Fity

Plattsburgh Florence Helen (Meyer) Fity passed away at her home on Blue Heron Way in Plattsburgh, New York on March 30, at the age of 95, surrounded by her family. Florence was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 7, 1913. She was the daughter of George Meyer and Helen Rowan Meyer. As a young woman, Florence went to work for Colonial Trust Company. It was there she met the love of her life, Charles Francis Fity. They were married in 1941and settled in Valley Stream, New York after Charlie returned from World War II. Together they raised four children, Charles Fity III of Knoxville, Tennessee; Geraldine Donlon of Westlake Village, CA; Maureen Dame (David) of Plattsburgh, New York; and Christine Gray of Redondo Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Charles, in 1971. Florence resided on Long Island until 1986 when she moved to Plattsburgh to be near her daughter, Maureen, and favorite son-in-law, David Dame. She loved traveling, ballroom dancing and playing the piano. She was a docent at the Kent Delord House and a volunteer for Mountain Lake Public Broadcasting. Besides her children, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Roseanna P. Fity; her 11 grandchildren: H. Paul Dame, Seth Dame, Julia Held, Priscilla Dame, Candace Fity, Mark Fity, Ali Fity, Jill Donlon, Jack Donlon, Kerry Donlon and Kevin Donlon; and two great-grandchildren, Grant Dame & Sawyer Held. The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by her loving caregivers, Mary, Loretta, Tammy, Rhonda, and Beverly. We would also like to express our gratitude to Hospice of the North Country for their compassionate assistance at this most difficult time. Thank you Mom for your unconditional love. We know you are now in heaven with Dad, dancing, laughing and watching over us. Funeral arrangements are private. The family requests no flowers.
