Frances P. Welch Butler Plattsburgh- Frances P. Welch Butler, 88, of Plattsburgh, NY, and formerly Mechanicville, NY, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Mechanicville, NY on March 17, 1922, the daughter of Irish immigrants, Thomas and Anna (O'Brien) Welch. She married her beloved husband, Richard F. Butler, on December 27, 1948 at St. Paul The Apostle Church in Mechanicville, NY. Together, they had one daughter, Nancy. Frances received her teaching degree from the State University Teachers' College in Albany, and began her career in Wappingers Falls, NY. Most of her career was spent teaching high school Latin and English at Stillwater Central School. After 37 years of dedicated service, she retired to spend time with her husband. Frances was a very devoted Catholic, and was served by her Eucharistic Minister and friend, Mona Wyser. She was an avid reader who loved literature and could recite her much loved poems verbatim. Frances loved Andre Rieu and she enjoyed listening to all of his CDs and watching each and every one of his DVDs. She also enjoyed lively political discussions. Survivors include her only brother, Thomas M. Welch of Plattsburgh and his children Mary McGee and husband, Charles, Michael Welch and wife, Kathy, Thomas Welch and wife, Tina, Patrick Welch and wife, Ellen, James Welch and wife, Diane, Ellen Welch and her companion, Richard Johnson, Anne Welch and her companion, Walter McNally, David Welch and wife, Tina, as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her loyal companion, Karen Renadette, also provided very loving care and companionship over the past few years. She considered Karen a member of the family. Frances is also survived by her daughter, Nancy, husband Joe Snay, and her three granddaughters, Amy Plass, Mandy Snay, and Kelly Snay. She also enjoyed close friendships with Kim Graves, Beryl Carlin, and Bea Senecal. Her husband Dick had a very large extended family who Frances loved greatly. She spoke of each and every one fondly. A private funeral service will be held at Brown Funeral Home Chapel on Monday July 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Cemetery in Mechanicville, NY.
