Francis McCort Jr., 72, passed away at the Pleasant Street ARC home on Sunday, January 5, 2020 as a result of metastatic lung cancer that had spread to his brain. Francis was surrounded by the loving and caring professional staff of the Peru residence, Hospice of the North County, and his sisters. He was born May 23, 1947 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of Helen (Desaw) McCort and Francis McCort Sr. Francis was proud to be a Jr. and would not let you leave it off his name.
Francis enjoyed over 40 years of comfort, and companionship at the ARC home in West Chazy. His caretakers became his friends and family and he had love in his heart for those surrounding him.
In his younger years he worked at Champlain Valley Industries and was a participant in the PATH Program. Previously he had competed in the Special Olympics. He loved trips to McDonald's and the donuts and coolatas from Dunkin Donuts supplied by the staff at his West Chazy home. He loved and appreciated the simplest of things and thanked you for the smallest kindness or consideration shown him. He was a living example of the wonder, excitement and joy of a child, which melted your heart, as well as his pure trust and innocence.
Francis was predeceased by his parents, his brother John, and brothers-in-law Kevin Conners and Billy Facteau. He is survived by his sisters Michele Conners and Melissa Facteau of Plattsburgh, Deanna Peete (David) of North Carolina, and Nanette Hite (Ben) of Peru, as well as his brother Brian McCort (Barb) of Plattsburgh. In addition, he is survived by his sisters children; Kenna Recore, Marlee Singleman, Shane Facteau, Jared Facteau, Danyell Collins-Facteau, Leonna Weiss, Eric Jasuta, Kayla McCort and Kara Hite.
Many thanks to the wonderful people who shared Fran's life and especially those from the ARC house in PERU for the outstanding care you provided him as he left this earth to join his mother. You provided him the love, dignity and respect we all wish for. You helped us enjoy the time we had left with Fran, assured that his medical needs were being met. Also thanks to Hospice for providing the support needed as his condition deteriorated. A special thanks to Becky Dominy for helping Fran and his family through such a difficult time.
