Francis G Petrashune

Francis G. Petrashune, 88 of Emmons Street, Dannemora died Tuesday May 6, 2014, at his home. He was born in Lyon Mountain on July 3, 1925, the son of Stanley and Sophia(Kviecin) Petrashune. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie (Perry) Petrashune. Frank was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Frank served in the United States Army as a Pfc. rifleman with the 38 th. infantry during the Central Europe Rhineland Campaign. He received the European Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Frank was employed by the Republic Steel Co. in Lyon Mountain for 17 years and worked as a carpenter at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora for 26 years. He was a member of the Dannemora Fire Department for over 50 years, the Sorrell Woodward American Legion in Lyon Mountain and a founding member of the Merry-Go-Round (Polander) Hunting Club in Lyon Mountain. He never missed an opportunity to supervise a family construction project or take a ride to camp. Besides his wife, Frank is survived by his sons and their wives; Mark and Elaine, Paul and Ann, James and Renee, Peter and Ann. Eight grandchildren;Adam,Austin,Max,Tim,Karen,Kate,Kelly, Kristen. Two great grandchildren; Aaliyah and Jonathan. Two brothers; William, Thomas and Jennette , one sister; Frances Gould, one sister in law Nancy, one brother in law Henry Ryan. As well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeseased by his parents, 4 brothers ; Stanley,Anthony,John and Mike, 2 sisters Mary and Josephine and sister in laws Winifred (Stan),Mildred(John), Janet (Bill). Calling hours will be held on Thursday May 8, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 9, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dannemora Fire Department or the St. Joseph's Church Renovation Fund.
