Fulton J. Sheehan, Sr., 82, of East Road, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH. . He was born in Plattsburgh on September 20, 1936, the son of the late James and Evelyn (Savage) Sheehan.
Fulton worked at Keeseville Elementary (A.V.C.S.) School District, Peru Central Summer Schools and substitute taught at Elizabethown school throughout his 38 year cumulative career.
Fulton worked in his younger years for the Lincoln Mercury Dealer and service station in Plattsburgh, the Union Hotel and Bar as a bartender and many other hats in the business while attending Plattsburgh State Teachers College (P.S.U.C.) .
Fulton taught in many classroom settings from one room, two room, trailers, and open space concept throughout his career. He was known in both Clinton and Essex County School Systems before retiring in 1991. Fulton was always dedicated to family and taking care of them first , then came his students whom he loved and cherished.
For many years, he taught the N.Y.S. Boat and Snowmobile Safety Courses. He also was a Cub Master and put on many Blue and Gold Dinners and formed and taught chess to his students.
Fulton also had a great admiration for all types of automobiles from Classics to Modern. He also loved all of the pets who were part of the family. Fulton and family had spent many years in Plattsburgh and Cumberland Head and then to Willsboro Point for summers and upon retirement lived in the Westport and Lewis areas and then Cadyville.
He was a 4th degree member of the Bishop Wadhams Assembly # 706 and was a commissioned Lay Minister.
Fulton is survived by his wife of 62 years Julia (White) Sheehan three sons and their families; his sisters in law; Margaret Parkinson and Virginia Sayward along with several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Church in Peru at a date and time to be announced. Inurnment will be in St. Augustine’s Columbarium.
Masses may be offered in his memory.
