Gary William King, age 30, died unexpectedly on February 1st at the U.S. Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver, Colorado with his loving aunt, uncle, and best friends by his side. Born January 31, 1981, he was the beloved son of Willie and Sheri (Stanley) King of Plattsburgh. He graduated from Peru Central School in 1999 and proudly obtained his Bachelor degree at University of Maryland University College in 2009. Gary served in the US Army from 1999-2001, and in the Iraq Theater from 2005-2007. He remained an Army Reservist and was honorably discharged in 2010. Recently Gary established his own business, KingBros Lawncare in Denver Colorado. He is survived by his parents and brother Matthew of Plattsburgh, grandfather Bill Stanley of Peru, aunts and uncles Bill and Roxanne Stanley of Lakewood Colorado, Tom and Linda King of Amsterdam NY, Tom and Barbara Douglas of Dannemora, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandmothers Elaine Stanley and Marie King, grandfather Adrian King, uncle Stephen King and aunt Betty King. Gary had a free and adventurous spirit. As an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer, he enjoyed his Rocky Mountains and native Adirondacks. He also had a love for the game of soccer which he played throughout the Champlain Valley in his youth and in high school. Gary had friendships from coast to coast, and if Gary was your friend, he was a friend for life. But most important he was a loving son and grandson, and a special big brother with a kind and generous heart. It was not the number of years in his shortened life that mattered; it was the life in those short years. And Gary lived every day as if it were his last. Contributions may be made to Peru Central School toward a soccer scholarship in Gary's memory to be established at a later date.
