Gary R Rivers Sr.

Gary R Rivers Sr. a long time resident of Cadyville, NY died on January 10th, 2024 with his family at his bedside. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on July 7, 1934, the son of William and Yvonne Rivers. Gary graduated from Plattsburgh High School and married Phyllis J Kline of Lyon Mountain, NY before joining the Air Force where he served 4 years. After the service, Gary worked in the carpet and flooring business for many years. He obtained a teaching certificate and became a vocational instructor at Clinton County Correctional Facility for 14 years, retiring in 1999. Gary was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deer and rabbit hunting with his dogs, fishing and at one time, rattlesnake hunting. He was a skilled builder and renovated his own home entirely. He also collected and loved antique tractors, especially his 1938 John Deere Model L, attending and winning many trophies at tractor shows. He passed on his outdoor skills and love of tractors to his children and grandchildren. Gary was also a big nascar race fan as well. Gary was pre-deceased by his daughter Donna Germain of Peru, NY. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years Phyllis Rivers, his daughter Deborah Ulin and her husband David Ulin of Ashland, MA, his son Gary Rivers Jr. and his partner Will Dibble of Pennellville, NY, his son Keith Rivers and his wife Denise of Copenhagen, NY and his son-in-law Bruce Germain of Peru, NY. Gary is also survived by a brother Daniel Rivers and his wife Judy of Cadyville, a sister Yvonne Calkins and her husband Tom of Plattsburgh, NY and a sister Shana Francis and her husband James of Vancouver, Canada. Gary had the love of many grandchildren to include Ashley Germain and her fiancé Mark Yanulavich, Taylor Germain, Mike Smart, Nichcole Mussen and her husband Mike Mussen Jr, Kirsten Ulin, Jared and his wife Heidi Caslin, Colby Rivers, Kasey and wife to be Amy Rivers. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.
