Gary L Snow

August 7, 1941 — April 10, 2021

Gary L. Snow, of Rand Hill Road, born August 7th, 1941 in Plattsburgh, passed away Saturday, April 10th in the early hours of the morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He often went by the name “Snowball”, a nickname given to him by his friends and family, a reflection of not only his surname, but his famous snow-white hair and playful personality. Later in life one would often hear him being called “poppies” by all in his family as he was a fierce family man and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his many beloved memory making moments and adventures.
Gary loved kayaking, cooking, camping, watching old westerns, cross-country skiing, creating various woodworking projects, and spending as much time as possible with his family, all of which he continued to do up until his last days.
In 1997, he retired from his position as chief mechanical engineer at Bouyea-Fassetts Bakery after 42 years of service, allowing him ample time to spend with his family, continue his ongoing renovations of his home, which he built himself, and to enjoy many of the activities he loved.
In addition to his dedication to his family, Gary was a long-time member and former president of the Wild Goose hunting club in Loon Lake, New York as well as a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Plattsburgh.
He is predeceased by his parents Edgar and Cecile Snow (Giroux) of Plattsburgh, his brother, Ira Snow of Mechanicville, and his wife, Mollie Snow (Burke) of Beekmantown.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kathy Snow (Latour) of Beekmantown, his children Christy (Snow) and James Durrant of Hilton Head, N.C., Tracy Snow and Debbie Ero of Plattsburgh, Gary Lee and Catherine (Younge) Snow of East Greenbush, April Pizarro (LeRose) of Plattsburgh, and Jamie Strough of Saranac Lake. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Snow (Lawliss) and his grandchildren Nathan and Kristen (Jenny) Snow, Celia McKendrick, Olivia (Pizarro) and Cory Collins, Emily Durrant, Octavia Pizarro, Hannah Durrant, Isiah Francois, William Snow, and Annie Snow as well as 5 great-grandchildren, with a 6th great-grandchild due next month.
There will be no calling hours held however, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville, on Saturday, April 17th at 11:00am with a graveside service at Magdala Solitude Cemetery to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Country.
