George E. Bouyea

George E. Bouyea, 92, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the UVM Health Network-CVPH surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Plattsburgh on December 1, 1931, the son of Leander and Jennie (Geroux) Bouyea. George graduated in 1951 from Mount Assumption Institute. After graduating he enlisted in the Untied States Air Force where he was stationed in Germany. Upon being honorably discharged from the US Air Force, George joined the family business, Bouyea Baking Company. He was involved with numerous businesses including Bouyea Baking Co., Fassetts Bakery, Clinton County Realty, Inc., Plattsburgh Grocery Inc., Lakeside Container Corp., Traynor-Marcus and Dossert Insurance, and more. George was a member of several local organizations including Plattsburgh Elks, VFW, Moose Lodge, Bluff Point Golf Club, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Plattsburgh AFB Liaison Committee, Beartown Ski Area, as well as many community boards. He was also a lifelong member of St. Peter’s parish. In his younger years, George enjoyed playing hockey, skiing (especially when he brought his children to ski races), bowling, and golf, which he continued to enjoy well into his eighties. He loved spending time at his former camp on Chazy Lake. Later in life he joined the Lake Forest community, enjoying puzzle making and became the resident 8 ball pool shark. One of the highlights of his life was being a member of the June 2017 Honor Flight. He continued to support the Honor Flight by attending numerous sendoff ceremonies. George was predeceased by his parents, Leander and Jennie (Geroux) Bouyea, sisters, and their spouses, Mrs. Harold (Rita) Healey, Mrs. Joseph (Thelma) Jefferies, Mrs. Ralph (Beulah) Cardinal, Mrs. John (Theresa) DosPassos, and Mrs. Donald (Jeannine) Clemons, brothers and their spouses, Leander A., Jr. (Marjorie) Bouyea, and Donald (Helen) Bouyea. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mr. Jud (Jane) Lancto, Mr. Robert (Lorraine) Lancto, Mr. Gerald (Betty) Lancto, Mrs. John (Theresa) Duquette. George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Muriel H. (Lancto) Bouyea, son George J. (Susan) Bouyea and daughter Paige B. (Brian) Raville, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday January 18, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am. Burial will be later in the year at St. Peter's Cemetery with full military honors. George was the kindest man - loved by many and a friend to all. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the North Country Honor Flight, PO Box 2644, Plattsburgh, NY 12901, or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home.
