George S. Dew, 87, of Sailly Avenue, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the UVM Health Network-CVPH. He was born in Torrington, Connecticut on April 21, 1933, the son of the late Stanley and Edith (Anderson) Dew.
He moved to Peru NY and graduated from Peru Central . He then enlisted in the US Army to fight in the Korean War and rose quickly to TSgt and was a demolitions man in the 25th Infantry Division. After his tour, he came back by ship to Hawaii where he would say he "forgot to leave for 3 months" before going state side. He married Dianne Wilson from Peru and they had 3 sons Keith, Jeff and Greg. He later worked all over the US as an Inspector at various nuclear power plants then was hired by an overseas contractor and traveled the world working in many countries like Kuwait, Indonesia, Holland, The Marshall Islands (Kwajaline atoll) St Croix VI just to name a few. He and Mom traveled to Spain, Morocco, went to the great pyramids in Egypt and other places, still talking about their travels until the end. Dad was not a big man, but had a commanding presence and a huge heart.
He was the Captain of the soccer team, played hockey, ran track and played in the school band. He loved animals and loved hand feeding his “ kids “ (Grey Squirrels) off the back patio and watching European soccer in his later years. Dad had a quick wit, never pulled any punches, and said it the way it was and didn't like political correctness. He was a hard worker and like his dad, loved to putter. He was predeceased by his sister Edith , parents and wife.
He is survived by his three sons and daughters in law; Keith and Paula Dew, Jeff and Suzanne Dew, and Greg and Lisa Dew, and his grandchildren Connor, Brooke, Breana, and Keely.
At Dad’s request, there will be no services. The family wishes to thank the Staff of R6 for the excellent care given to Dad. Memorial donations may be offered to the Elmore S.P.C.A. in Peru..
