George V Douglas

George V. Douglas, 91, of Edgewater Estates, passed away on Sunday January 5, 2020 at UVHN: CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born in Plattsburgh on April 22, 1928, the son of George and Alice (Lafountain) Douglas.
George graduated from Plattsburgh High School and grew up working on his family’s farm, where he developed a great love for farming.
George served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 and was employed as a corrections officer at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora and retired after 33 years of service. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 255 in Plattsburgh, American Legion Post 20, the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge, The Senior Fitness and RSVP Exercise Group at the North Country Senior Center and was a member of St. Peter’s Church. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, playing cards, traveling and spending time with his family, who affectionately called him “Porgie”. He spent many happy winters in West Palm Beach Florida. George always looked forward to his daily happy hour with his friends and neighbors at Edgewater Estates and loved the beautiful sunrises and sunsets over Lake Champlain. He always took pride in owning and sporting his red truck.
He is survived by his wife, Rita of Plattsburgh, his children: Cathy Douglas of Big Sky, MT, Scott Douglas and his wife Debbie of Blackfoot, Idaho, Neal Douglas and his wife Kathryn of Cape Coral, FL, step children; Lynn Howard and her husband Thomas of Morrisonville, James Jarvis and his wife Barbara of Champlain and Gail Anne Jarvis, RSM, of Burlington, VT, his siblings; Lawrence Douglas and his wife Audrey of Altona, John Douglas of Garden City, Long Island, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.
His first wife of 52 years, Pearl (Hayes) Douglas, a son Gary Douglas, his siblings; Donald Douglas and Marie O’Connor, and a grandson Jeremy Douglas passed away earlier.
Calling hours will be held on January 9, 2020 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on January 10, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Church. Entombment will be in Whispering Maples Mausoleum in Plattsburgh.
George’s family wishes to give a special thank you to his caregiver Mae Brothers and all his neighbors and friends who were there for him, his physician Dr. Pelton and the staff of CVPH Medical Center.
