George P "Butch" O'Connell

Plattsburgh George P. "Butch" O'Connell, 82, of Woodland Drive, passed away on Sunday February 1, 2009 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY on June 11, 1926, the son of Charles and Priscilla (Dignard) O'Connell. Butch attended Mount Assumption Institute. He was a veteran World War II serving in the Pacific Theater, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a Plattsburgh City Firefighter, retiring as Assistant Chief. Butch was a member of St. Peter's Parish in Plattsburgh. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 621 in Plattsburgh, American Legion Post 20, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125 and Knights of Columbus Council 255. Butch is survived by his four children, Timothy and Peggy O'Connell of Peru, Paul and Susan O'Connell of Plattsburgh, Judy Lynn O'Connell of Tupper Lake, Carol McFalls of Plattsburgh, five grandchildren, Christopher O'Connell and his wife, Jill of Rochester, Kelli Brannock and her husband, Steve of Warrenton, VA, Kacey O'Connell of Albany, Marissa McFalls of Albany, Lindsay O'Connell of Albany, a great grandson, Timmy Brannock, a brother Ken and a sister Joyce both of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Butch was pre-deceased by his wife Beatrice O'Connell, his parents Charles and Priscilla (Dignard) O'Connell and a son-in-law Steve McFalls. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday February 3, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday February 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery later in the year.
