Georgianna Spooner

Plattsburgh Mrs. Georgianna Spooner, 93, formerly of the Brown Road, Plattsburgh, New York passed away on Monday January, 24, 2011 at the Meadowbrook Health Care Facility with her family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh, New York on August 9, 1917 the daughter of George and Lillian (Smith) Crooks. Georgianna enjoyed reading, watching baseball, taken long rides and traveling with her children and doing crossword puzzles. She devoted her life to her children and her grand children. Her husband Joseph Spooner was killed in action at the Battle of the Bulge. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents, her sons Bernard Spooner, Donald Spooner, Ronald Spooner, Harold "Blackie" Spooner, a granddaughter Barbara Joan Yates, a great grandson Curtis Allen Barber, Jr., two nephews Francis LaFountain and Earl LaFountain, three brothers Theodore, Eugene and Clarence Garrow and her long time companion Louis Premore. Georgianna is survived by two sons, Harlan Spooner and his wife Marie of Plattsburgh, Gerald Spooner and his wife Gloria of Beekmantown, two daughters, Doris Barber and her husband Robert of Beekmantown, Shirley Reome and her husband Richard of Plattsburgh, a daughter-in-law Barbara Spooner of Plattsburgh, two grandchildren she raised as her own Sherry Criss and her companion Shawn of Plattsburgh, Mark Spooner and his wife Annie of Plattsburgh, 21 additional grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren. She had six generations of grandchildren. Two nieces Theresa Duel and her husband Robert of Plattsburgh and Genevieve Goddeau of Plattsburgh also survive her. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be with her husband at a later date at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Emmaus Room at St. Peter's Church.
