Mr. Gerald Joseph LaFountain, 85, of Devils Den Road, Altona, N.Y. passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2021, after a brief illness. He was born in Altona, N.Y. on December 6, 1935, the son of Norman and Lillian (Lashway) LaFountain Sr.
Gerald started working on the family farm at an early age and then started his own business with purchasing a 1955 Chevrolet Stake Bed truck to haul milk from dairy farmers to dairy plants. He worked his way into a Roofing and Sheet Metal career with Antwerp Roofing of Gouverneur, NY and then eventually joining Monahan & Loughlin in Hudson Falls, NY as a Field Supervisor. He enjoyed working for Monahan & Loughlin, they were his second family. He retired after 35 years with them. His journey then brought him to being the Feinberg Park Manager, which he made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed this job with his heart and soul as he loved serving his community. He retired from the Town of Altona after 25 years of service.
Gerald’s children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He most enjoyed watching them play in their sporting events no matter where it took him, spending time by the lake and visiting family in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was an avid NASCAR fan with being a diehard Ford fan. He loved his John Deere tractor, his 1969 Ski-doo and spending time with his family at Uncle Clarence’s deer camp. He was blessed to have great neighbors and friends and enjoyed spending time with them as well.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Norman LaFountain Sr. and Lillian (Lashway) LaFountain; sister Mildred and Donald Lashway, brother Norman LaFountain Jr. survived by his wife Sandra LaFountain, brother Ronald LaFountain survived by his wife Gladys LaFountain, brother Kenneth and Lorraine LaFountain, brother Clarence LaFountain survived by his wife Paulette LaFountain, Maynard “Bucky” LaFountain survived by his wife Wanda LaFountain, brother Wayne LaFountain survived by his wife Peggy LaFountain, brother Larry LaFountain survived by his wife Linda LaFountain, brothers-in-law, Roma DeCoste, George DeCosse, Dennis DeCosse, Stanley Savage and Joseph Snide.
Left to cherish memories of Gerald are his loving wife of 64 years, Loretta LaFountain, his daughters, Lynne Doss and husband Rex of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Laurie Dominic and husband Stacy of Champlain, NY, Lisa Juneau and husband Derek of Myrtle Beach, S.C, and his beloved grandchildren, Jamie Favaro and wife Tracie, Taylor Juneau, Cari Dominic Wood and husband Joel, Jordan Auger and husband Eric and great grandchildren Kylee and Levi Favaro. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Emma Savage, Theresa Snide, Bernadette Trudeau, Helen DeCoste and several nieces and nephews.
