Gerald W Monty

Gerald W. Monty, 92, of Plattsburgh, formerly of West Chazy, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 2, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
The last of eight children to the late George and Margaret (Powers) Monty, Jerry was born in Chazy on November 11, 1928.
He is survived by the love of his life of 68 years, Rosemary (Latour) Monty.
He was a devoted father and grandfather to his four children, Cheryl Monty of Plattsburgh, Rick (Cindy) Monty of Saranac Lake, Donna (Adrian) Beaudet of Deerfield Beach, Florida and John (Mary Ann) Monty of Saranac Lake. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Angela, Richard, Jarrett, Danielle, Cherri, Ben, Frank, Megan, Brittany, Christian and 11 great grandchildren.
An Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Jerry proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1948 until he was honorably discharged at West Point in 1952.
After marrying Rosemary on January 10, 1953 and starting a family, Jerry opened Monty’s Gulf Gas station (affectionately known as “The Garage”) in 1959 and operated it until 1979.
Jerry took great pride in the face that “The Garage” served as a staple in the South Plattsburgh neighborhood for two decades, including the opportunity to support fellow servicemen located at the nearby airbase.
Jerry was a devoted Catholic who along with his wife, regularly attended St. Peter’s Church.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4:00-7:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. Funeral services will Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 11:00am in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Chazy.
