Geraldine "Gerrie" Leonard

Geraldine McCarthy Leonard, “Gerrie”, age 87, died on October 17, 2022 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY. She was born in Tupper Lake on Dec. 23, 1934. Gerrie graduated from Champlain Valley Hospital in 1956 where she proudly received her nursing license. She was an RN at CVPH Medical Center for 28 years and was the operating room supervisor prior to organizing and developing the ambulatory surgery unit.

Gerrie is survived by her beloved son, James Edward Leonard and his wife, Rebecca, of Plattsburgh, NY; brother John McCarthy of Malone, NY; sister Sister Barbara McCarthy of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, as well as many treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph “Jerry” Leonard, son John Joseph Leonard and daughter Pamela Ann Leonard.

A longtime resident of Plattsburgh, Gerrie was a skilled craftsperson, an avid reader and a true lover of nature. Even well after retirement, she was always willing to help her neighbors with medical care.

A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 12:00 PM at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
