Gilbert Lewis Zahn Iii

Beekmantown Mr. Gilbert Lewis Zahn, III, 58, of Haynes Road, Beekmantown passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010 at his home with family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country after a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Ausable Forks, New York on March 1, 1952 the son of Gilbert Lewis Zahn, II and Evelyn (Taylor) Zahn. Gil was a graduate of Mount Assumption Institute Class of 1970 and he received his Bachelors Degree with a dual major from Plattsburgh State University College Class of 1974. While in college, he began working at Burgess Enterprises and later became co-owner. Gil was a member of the Plattsburgh Rotary Club where he served as Past President and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Club. He enjoyed playing golf, tinkering with anything mechanical and driving his Porsche. Gil was predeceased by his parents Gilbert and Evelyn Zahn, II, his grandparents who raised him Gilbert and Christina Zahn, I and his canine companion Wilma. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Nancy (Wray) Zahn of Beekmantown, a son Jesse Zahn and his wife Lori and their children Abigail and Gabriel of Clifton Park, New York, a daughter Megan Ryan and her son Brendan also of Clifton Park, three sisters; Kam LeCuyer of Plattsburgh, Sherrie Yauch and her husband Robert of Niceville, Florida, Melanie Elliot and her husband Douglas of Clinton, Connecticut, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gil would like to be remembered "As a man of few words. Rejoice and celebrate life. Remember him, but not mourn him." Calling hours will be Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Msgr. C. John McAvoy officiating. Interment will be private at Fairview Cemetery in Ausable Forks.
