PLATTSBURGH ” Mrs. Helen W. Lewis, 82, of Keeseville, N.Y., passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at the CVPH Medical Center with family by her side. She was born in Plainfield, N.J. on June 20, 1930, the daughter of Allan F. and Martha F. (Purdy) Wood. They predeceased her, as well as a sister Uretta Wood, who died in infancy. Helen graduated from Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown, N.Y., in 1948. She met the love of her life, her husband Robert Lewis on a blind date in May of 1948. They eloped to Mount Kisco, N.Y., on Friday the 13th of August 1948, and just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. When Helen and Bob were first married, they moved to Williamstown, Mass., where Bob attended Williams College while Helen worked. They both earned degrees in 1951, his a BA, hers a PHT (Putting Hubby Through). After their daughter was born, they made their home in Katonah, N.Y., until 1967, when they moved to Keeseville, N.Y., and built their dream home on Augur Lake. Helen and Bob joined the Keeseville United Methodist Church, where Helen worked faithfully every week as a volunteer at the Thrift Shop. It was a job she lived and worked at for over 40 years. Helen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Helen is survived by her loving husband Robert; her daughter and son-in-law, Allyne Lewis Chartier and Maurice Chartier of Keeseville, N.Y.; her grandson and his fianc^, Kenneth Joyal and Janice Landry; and a great-grandson, Dexter Joyal, all of Malone. In accordance with Helen's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in Helen's name to the Keeseville United Methodist Church, 1619A Front Street, Keeseville, NY, 12944.
