Henrietta Y. DeFayette resided in Plattsburgh, New York, and passed away August 7, 2024 at the age of 101. She was born in Napierville, Canada, August 19, 1922. The oldest daughter of Armand Fortin and Laurence Longton, Henrietta married Frank Andrew DeFayette on September 19,1946. In their 50 years together, Frank and Henrietta inspired, advised, and cared deeply for five children: Judy, John, Suzanne, Thomas, and Gizelle. Henrietta was a full-time parent, community volunteer, and devout St. Peter's Church parishioner. She was employed at the library, as well as Broad Street and Bailey Avenue Elementary Schools until her retirement in the late 90s. She taught French, offered watercolor painting workshops to Seniors, served at St. Peter's Soup Kitchen, volunteered in the literacy program, and assisted patients and visitors at the hospital. She loved late night runs for ice cream, shopping for others, visiting friends, and keeping up with the latest fashion trends. She took pride in her loyalty and independence, loving her family, and being an informed citizen. She was smart, hardworking, and believed in staying positive. Henrietta was predeceased by her parents and husband; also her sister, Jeanine Fortin Decavallas, and brothers Leo and Henry Fortin, as well as her daughter, Suzanne DeFayette Carey, and her daughter-in-law, Beth Howard DeFayette. She is survived by her siblings, Brother Raymond Fortin and Lillian Fortin Dubrey. She has thirteen grandchildren and is survived by her daughter, Judy DeFayette Fitzpatrick and spouse William (Shayne and Abigail Fitzpatrick); John DeFayette (Kelly DeFayette, Tricia DeFayette Feinberg, Jason DeFayette); son-in-law, JD Carey (Kevin Carey, Bryce Carey, Brendan Carey); Tom and Debbie DeFayette (Adam DeFayette, Stacey DeFayette Harms, and Seth DeFayette ) Gizelle DeFayette Menard and spouse, Rick Menard (Jake Menard and Hannah Menard Relation). Henrietta was blessed with twenty-one great-grandchildren. She is a legend in the Fortin- DeFayette family and will be greatly missed. Calling hours will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 14th, 2024. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Peter's Church at 1:30 pm. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
