Herbert W. Jones (known as Bill to friends, but Herbie to his family), 89 of Plattsburgh, died peacefully at his home on February 7, 2024 with his family by his side. Bill was born in Willsboro, NY on December 25, 1934, the son of Herbert and Audrey (Marshall Beede). His father Herbert died in an automobile accident in 1953 and Audrey remarried Al Newkirk in 1958. Bill graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1952. After graduating, Bill enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1960 with the rank of SSG/E6. Upon returning from his service to his country, Bill owned and operated Jones Sunoco in Keeseville from 1961-1963. After selling the business he went to work for Metropolitan Petroleum (later known as Pittston Petroleum) as a dispatcher. He later left Pittston to open and manage Bray Terminals for 5 years before leaving to join Agway Energy Products as the Production Coordinator, where he remained until retiring in 1999. Bill additionally served in the US Army Reserves, retiring after 20 years of service. After only a few weeks of permanent retirement, (retirement was not in the cards for Bill) he went to work for Mike Wilson at Wilson Appliance, remaining after Mike’s passing to work for Mike’s son Nate, developing a very special bond, where he remained with Nate until finally calling it quits in December 2019 In 1972 he met the love of his life, Carol (Ashline). They married in 1976 and spent the next almost 50 years raising a family, forging bonds with friends that have and will last beyond their lifetimes and traveling. Bill was a hard worker, treated everyone with dignity and respect, no matter their lot in life. He is known for his kindness and dedication to family and friends. Bill loved to sit outside in the sun, listen to country music and chat with neighbors and friends. He also took great care and enjoyed the antics of his granddogs, especially Roxy (more affectionately known as Poopsie), Meika (known also as Crazy) and Gunner, the squirrel chaser. Bill is known for his kindness and dedication, but the most important focus of his life was his family. Bill is survived by the wife he adored, Carol, his children Sheila Rock and her husband Dave of Malone, Yalonda Laundry and her husband Bernie, Daryl Woodward and his wife Mary, Cheryl Sondrini and her husband Tim, all of Plattsburgh, and Andreas Boettcher and his wife Bev, from the United Kingdom. Bill also is survived by 13 Grandchildren; Bernie Laundry and partner Renee, Chad Laundry and wife Kelly, Selena Banker and husband Dan, Tara Woodward and partner Mark, Lance Miller and partner Allison, Jeremy Miller and partner Barb, Alisha Young and husband Robert, Trista Rajaratnam and husband Janahan, Amelia Wright, Larissa and Alana Boettcher, Tina Eagle and husband Dean, Giny Cahoon and husband Ron. Bill also leaves behind 16 Great Grandchildren; Jared and girlfriend Chelbe, Emily and fiance Nathan, Elijah, Andrew and wife Brooke, Lori and fiancee Julia, Jeffrey, Rebecca, Adelle, Cozette fiancee Jordan, Mason, Madden, Harlow, Hayden, Emily, Nathan, Chelsea and husband William, and Corey. As well as 4 Great Great Grandchildren; Odin, Milo, Harper, and Wyatt. Bill also leaves a sister Adra Barta and her husband Al, sister-in-law Sheila Mossey, brother-in-law Carl Ashline and partner Frieda Carron, nieces Valerie Daniels and husband Kirk, Dee Lacey, Shereen Alinaghian, Tana Shepler and husband George, Cheryl Fraizer, Dr. Natania Piper and husband Jeff and nephews Tommy Wells and wife Juita, Dale Wells, Brian Wells and wife Brandi, Kent Lacey, Eric Jones and Ali Alinaghian. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by an infant daughter Patricia, Siblings Juanita Lacey, Allen Jones, Kirk Jones, Anne Finley and her husband Mike, sister-in-law/brother-in-law Shirley and Rosevelt Williams, and brother-in-law John Mossey, Great Nephew Patrick Wells, Great Great Nephew Beckett Wells, and his most beloved granddog Roxy (Poopsie). The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of the North Country for their support in the last days of his life. Calling Hours will be on Saturday, February 17,2024 from 1 - 3 pm with services to follow. Donations may be made to the North Country Honor Flight in his memory in lieu of flowers.
