Herman “Frank” Hentschel, 86, of Plattsburgh, died peacefully early on 12 January. He is survived by his sons Tim and Frank.
Born in Philadelphia in 1936, Frank joined the Air Force straight out of high school in a successful effort to avoid college. Stationed at Holloman AFB, Frank met the love of his life, Eileen. Married in 1958, they remained together until Eileen’s passing in 2010. Along the way he raised two boys - Tim and Frank.
After his time in the Air Force, Frank and family moved to Plattsburgh in 1964. Frank worked at PAFB for 30 years at what he loved best, engine mechanic. Frank had the uncanny ability to fix anything mechanical.
In 1964 Frank happened to stop into what is now Bobby’s Lounge. From that day on you could find him most ever day on the same stool in same the corner for his regular two beers (lots of ice, please) where he would enjoy the company of what became lifetime friends. A life-long old car enthusiast, Frank was the proud owner of several award-winning collectable cars. Nothing would make him smile more than showing his cars to anyone who happened to stop by.
A friend to every person, dog, cat, squirrel, bird and any other living critter, Frank was the embodiment of a good friend and neighbor. A quiet, trustworthy and reliable man who was happiest when helping others.
Fiercely independent, Frank lived alone (wouldn’t have it any other way) with his latest companion, Fluffy, who wandered in one day and never left – the latest in a long line of strays who found a warm and loving home with Frank.
A fantastic father, husband, friend and neighbor, Frank will be sadly missed by all who were ever lucky enough to have known him.
In lieu of flowers Frank would like you to hoist a glass (full of ice, please) of your favorite beverage and think of him.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. (518) 561-3980. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
