Hilda Shanley

June 23, 1933 — June 25, 2022

Hilda Shanley, 89 of Cadyville died Saturday, June 25, 2022 with family by her side and under the loving care of the CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility staff. Hilda was born in Manhattan to Scottish immigrants, William and Hilda (Strachan) MacPherson. She grew up in the Upper West Side of Manhattan where her father was a chauffeur and her mother worked at a variety of jobs including a sales clerk at Lord & Taylor.

She married Francis “Bud” Shanley on March 3, 1963 and in the early 70’s they relocated from Long Island to North Country. Together they built a good life and made many friends.

She worked in health care for much of her life, first as a nurse aide and later returned to school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired from CVPH after 23 years of service but soon returned as a volunteer delivering flowers and later manning the front desk. She was a volunteer for more than 25 years even reporting for duty after moving into the Skilled Nursing Facility.

Hilda was proud of her Scottish heritage and traveled often to Scotland to visit family. She and Bud loved to travel and together took many memorable trips across the country, Europe and even a few Caribbean cruises. She enjoyed gardening, a good scotch whiskey and she loved dogs. But the light of her life were her grandchildren, Lindsey Shanley, Libby Blake and Maggie Blake. As her eyesight faded and the dementia slowly robbed her of so many things, she loved to hear about their exploits and accomplishments and savored the time spent with them. She was a proud Grannie.

Hilda is predeceased by her parents, her husband Bud, a brother, George MacPherson and a daughter, Donna. She is survived by her son Thomas, his partner Keri Wood of Plattsburgh and their daughter Lindsey Shanley; daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Donald Blake of Morrisonville and their children Maggie and Libby; step grandchildren Joshua Blake (Melissa), Chateaugay; Jolinda Burgess (Randy Martin), Keeseville, and Jennifer McCasland (Cory), Cadyville; a daughter, Shari Weisse of Henderson, NY and son, Mitch Resler of Las Vegas, NV and a grandson, Adam Resler also of Las Vegas; sisters-in-law Josette Shanley of Central Islip, Long Island and Dianne MacPherson of Valley Cottage, NY and many nieces and nephews.
Her family will be forever grateful to the CVPH SNF team for all they have done – from supporting Mom’s desire to continue to volunteer to serving as surrogate family during the height of the pandemic and most recently, helping her leave this world in peace, with dignity and surrounded by love.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in her memory to the CVPH Foundation.

Look out Bud, here she comes!

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown Funeral Home, 3 Park Row in Cadyville. Online condolences may be offered at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com
