Ocala, Florida Mr. Hillary James "Hy" O'Neill, 85, of Pine Trace Run, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at his residence in Ocala, Florida. He was born in Rouses Point, NY on November 6, 1923, son of the late James and Eva (Bechard) O'Neill. Hillary had been employed for ten years by D & H Railroad in Rouses Point, later he was a New York State Corrections officer, employed at Clinton Correctional Facility, retiring after twenty five years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps as a waist gunner on a B17. Hillary was a member of the American Legion Post #852 in Dannemora, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Saranac, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Belleview, Florida, a member of St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Ocala, Florida. Hillary enjoyed his retirement, enjoying woodworking and was a collector of many things. Hillary is survived by his wife, Anita B. O'Neill of Ocala, Florida, they would have been married sixty one years on Thanksgiving day, six children, Timothy O'Neill of Morrisonville, Merry LaFontaine and her husband, Mario Garcia of Ocala, Florida, Thomas O'Neill and his wife, Sharon of Belchertown, Massachusetts, Stephen O'Neill of Latham, Christopher O'Neill of Guilderland, Eric O'Neill and his wife, Kimberly of Dannemora, ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, a sister in law, Judy O'Neil of Rouses Point and several nieces and nephews. Hillary was pre-deceased by two brothers, Patrick O'Neil, Daniel O'Neil, a daughter in law, Betty O'Neill and a great grandson Adam O'Neill. Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Burial will be later next year in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora with full military honors.
