Howard C Lapointe

Plattsburgh Howard C. LaPointe, 88, of South Catherine St., Plattsburgh, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at his home with his family by his side, a few days shy of his 89th birthday. He was born in Plattsburgh, on February 1, 1926 the son of the late Joseph and Eunice (Lashway) LaPointe. Howard joined the United States Marine Corps., serving his country in World War II. After the war, Howard was honorably discharged. Upon returning from the war he married the love of his life, Gloria Harvey, on September 16, 1950. Howard worked as a chef at the Witherill Hotel for 22½ years. Upon the closing of the hotel, he worked at Plattsburgh State University for more than 38 years managing the dining halls, working for the president, as well as catering many functions for the college and spearheaded the first weddings at the Valcour Conference Center. He refused to stop working until the age of 83, last working at Carsana's Deli where he made his famous soups. Howard had a love for cooking and a passion for food, but his true love was for his wife and family. He enjoyed taking daytrips with his wife and Sunday drives. Everyone that knew Howard will remember his quick sense of humor that lasted until his very last days. He was predeceased by his brother, Harold and his sisters; Joyce and Marion. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria, daughter, Holly Pellerin and her husband David of Plattsburgh, his son, Joseph LaPointe and his wife Karen, of Mechanicville, NY/Lake Wales, FL, his grandchildren; Sarah Pellerin and her companion Brandon Ruffin, Mark Pellerin and his companion Ashley Dasilva-Leclerc, Kyle Pellerin, Alyssa Moffre and her husband Mark, Todd LaPointe and his wife Jill, Benjamin LaPointe and his wife Jessica, his great-grandchildren; Abigail, Emmalene, Connor, Jordan, Morgan, Bobby, Savannah, Emery, and Benjamin and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year at Mount Carmel Cemetery.
