Mr. J. Walter Barrett, 88, of Baldwinsville, passed away Monday at University Hospital in Syracuse. Born in Dannemora, NY, he attended St. John's School, was a 1940 graduate of Mt. Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, and attended SUNY Plattsburgh. Walter was a US Army Veteran. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Infantry Combat Badge. Walter retired after 22 years as an Economic Development Loan Officer for the Small Business Administration. Walter was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4114 and was a faithful navigator of the 4th Degree. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, Foxfire 9 Hole Men's Golf League. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Helen Bradford in 2006, and his grandson Patrick Rowell in 1976. He is survived by four daughters; Margaret (Gary) Storinge of Canastota, Mary Helen (Ronald) Rowell of Colorado, Kathleen Grobosky of Baldwinsville, H. Betsy Barrett of Florida; his son, James (Lynn) Barrett Jr. of Colorado; 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 1:00 pm from St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
