James C. "Jim" Abbott, 55, of Spitfire Drive, Plattsburgh, New York passed away on Friday, July 23, 2010 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh following a long and courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side. He was born in Peekskill, New York on March 11, 1955 the son of Conwell and Frances Abbott. Jim graduated from Peekskill High School in 1973 and later from Clarkson College of Technology with a B.S. in Accounting, Class of 1977. He became Certified Public Accountant in 1979 and began working for Edwards, Williams, McManus, Riccardelli and Coffey, P.C. as an accountant and later became a partner in the firm, today known as Abbott, Frenyea, Russell and Coffee, P.C. serving as President of the Firm. Jim was Past Chairman of the Plattsburgh and Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Plattsburgh Kiwanis Club, Past Treasurer of the Beartown Ski Association, Past Treasurer of the Plattsburgh Little League, the Canadian Task Force for the Plattsburgh and Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Planned Giving Committee SUNY College Foundation, Treasurer of the Clinton County Republican Party, Treasurer of the CVPH Hospital Foundation, Board Member of the CVPH Medical Center and a Board Member of the PIDC. Jim was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysis. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, boating, jet skiing, wind surfing, scuba diving and spending time with family and friends. Jim was predeceased by his mother Frances Abbott. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Mary (Phifer) Abbott of Plattsburgh, three children; Michael Abbott and his fiance Katie Mulligan of South Burlington, Vermont, Rosalyn Abbott of Burlington, Vermont and Jeffrey Abbott of Plattsburgh, New York, his father Conwell Abbott of Windham, New Hampshire, a sister Ruth Clark and her husband Daniel of Reading, Massachusetts, a grand daughter Mackenzie, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.
