James S Carr

James S. Carr, 77 of South Catherine Street, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on January 22th, 2024, peacefully, at CVPH. He was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Sept 25, 1946, the son of George and Jean (Mehan) Carr. He grew up in Plattsburgh and graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in 1965. In 1967, Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country for 4 years. He was a Sergeant, fighting for the VMA(AW)225 Squad in Vietnam. When he returned home, he worked at Imperial Wallcoverings for 27 years until they closed in 1998. He went on to study Industrial Technology at Clinton Community College, graduating at age 54. He also worked for IBM & Wyeth. Jim was very active in the community, a dedicated coach of Plattsburgh Youth Hockey and Little League for several years. He was on the Board of Directors for Plattsburgh Youth Hockey as well as the North Stars Football Team. Jim was an avid sports fan, proudly supporting the NY Yankees, NY Islanders and NY Giants. He was a devoted father and grandfather, helping his children and spoiling his grandchildren every chance he got. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Mary Lynn Carr; a brother, Bill Carr; his son, David Carr and several aunts and uncles. Jim is survived by his two children, James Carr II and his wife Olivia of Mooers Forks; and Keva Timpson of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Steven, Jacob, Patrick & Charlotte; his sister-in-law, Pat of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Corrie Lawler and her husband Mike of Syracuse, Kim Broeker and her husband Eric of Hammond; Barbara Carr of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday June 7, 2024, at 1:30 pm at St. Peters Church in Plattsburgh, burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors. A celebration of life will follow the burial at Meron's Bar in Plattsburgh. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Plattsburgh Youth Hockey, c/o Brown Funeral Home.
