Mr. James M. "Jim" Dowdle, 94, of Rugar Street, Plattsburgh and formerly of Dannemora passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the CVPH Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born in Elmira, New York on February 5, 1918 the son of Walter and Katherine (Moton) Dowdle. Jim entered the United States Army in 1942, being honorably discharged as a Corporal, where he was the recipient of several commendations and a Bronze Star during the Battle of the Bulge. He retired as a correction officer from Clinton Correctional Facility, Dannemora after 39 years in 1981. Jim enjoyed auctions, antiques, fishing, hunting, cooking, playing mister fix it, O.T.B., and being Papa to his five beloved grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was a past member of the Plattsburgh Elks Lodge, a Lifetime Member the American Legion Post 20 and the Siberian Rod and Gun Club. Jim was predeceased by his parents, his siblings; a brother Walter Dowdle and John Dowdle, sister-in-laws; Marita Dowdle and Helen Dowdle and cherished daughter-in-law Melanie "Mel" Dowdle, who passed away only two months ago. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Eleanor A. (Wardell) Dowdle whom he married September 9, 1947 at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Jim is also survived by two sons; James Dowdle of Dannemora and Dale Dowdle and his wife Kim of Plattsburgh, five grandchildren; Rebecca Gomes and her husband Mario of Central Square, NY, William Dowdle and his wife Staci of San Francisco, CA, James "Jim" Dowdle of Columbus, OH, Allison Rodriguez and her husband Jordan of Plattsburgh, Hillary Dowdle of New York City, NY, three great grandchildren, Logan and Garrison Rodriguez and Gabriel Gomes. Calling hours will be Monday, August 20, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Interment with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
