Plattsburgh James A. Hughes, 88, of Miller Street, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Bloomsburg, PA on June 3, 1923, the son of Samuel and Lucy (Young) Hughes. James graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1940. He then enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, where he served his country during World War II. James later retired from the United States Air Force after 24 years of decorated service. He continued to work at Plattsburgh Air Force Base as a civilian for the 380th Bombardment Wing Base Supply Squadron, retiring in 1987. James was a member of the American Legion Post 20, V.F.W. Post 125 and Bible Baptist Church in Plattsburgh. He enjoyed fishing, reading, sports and was always willing to give to those in need. James was predeceased by his parents and a brother Daniel Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby (Koon) Hughes of Plattsburgh, three children; Gregory Hughes of Plattsburgh, Alexander Hughes and his wife Andrea of Germany and Robin Hughes and her husband Henry B. Green, Jr., USAF Ret. of Dallas, TX, two grandchildren; Mia-Keiche Hughes Walton and Ruby Hughes, two great grandchildren; Damaya Hughes Owens and Christian James Hughes Walton, a sister Mary Jane Hughes Crawford of N.C., several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues also survive him. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday November 23, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will be held on Friday November 25, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
