Jane C Arena

Plattsburgh Mrs. Jane C. Arena, 81, of Hillcrest Avenue in Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility with family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh on January 21, 1932, the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Cook) Weatherwax. She was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School and attended Plattsburgh State University College. Jane and her late husband, Salvatore Arena owned and operated Domenic's Restaurant in Plattsburgh for forty five years until her retirement. Jane's biggest recreation was bowling. She was vice president of the Plattsburgh Women's Bowling Association for several years. Jane was active in getting the 1970 and 1976 New York State Women's Bowling Tournaments to Plattsburgh. She bowled in forty state tournaments and thirty national tournaments. She was President of the Polaris League for many years and travelled to many state and national bowling tournaments. She also enjoyed, playing bingo, travelling and was a member of St. Peter's Church. Jane is survived by a son, Kevin "Skip O'Hara of Plattsburgh, a stepson; Domenic "Butch" Arena of Providence, RI ., her sisters and brothers in law; Lorraine Glode of NC., Pauline and Arnold "Petty" Provost of West Chazy, Pearl Weatherwax of Plattsburgh, a sister in law; Grace Masse of Syracuse, her grandchildren; Nathan O'Hara of Plattsburgh and Nikki Burdo and her husband, Kyle Burdo of Plattsburgh, her step grandchildren; Jason, Christine, Marissa, 4 great grandchildren; Sydney, Sophie, and Halle Burdo, Emma O'Hara and 2 step great grandchildren Noah and Lodan, a son in law Robert Belcher of Florida, several nieces and nephews and her canine companion Dunito. She was predeceased by her parents George and Catherine Weatherwax, her husband Salvatore "Sal" Arena, a daughter Carlene Belcher, and brothers; Carl "Buddy", Dennis, Edward, William "Billy" and Thomas also passed away earlier. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Church. Entombment will follow at Whispering Maples mausoleum in Plattsburgh.
