Jane Buckley Chapman, 96, died Monday, February 3, 2014 under the loving care of her daughter and son-in-law, Meredith and Michael O'Connor of 11 Point Cliff Dr. Plattsburgh, NY. Jane was born March 18, 1917 in Albany, NY to Margaret Garry Buckley and Christopher H. Buckley. She attended Katherine Gibbs School as a youngster and later graduated from The Albany Girl's Academy. She received her BS degree in child development from Bennington College and her MS degree in social studies from SUNY Plattsburgh. In her youth she enjoyed traveling to Hollywood with her parents in the summer. As her father was one of the country's leading movie exhibitors, she had the opportunity to meet many notable movie stars and strolled the beach with Max Factor on one of her visits. After graduating from Bennington, Jane worked for renowned Jeweler, George Jensen and taught dance lessons on the lower east side of Manhattan. At one time Jane danced with the late Martha Graham. Shortly before World War II, Jane married attorney, Arnold G. Chapman and they settled in Plattsburgh, NY where they raised their three children. Jane was a "domestic engineer" until the late sixties when she began work as a school librarian at ST. Peter's and later, at Beekmantown School. She retired in 1970. Jane is survived by her son, Arnold G. Chapman, Marita Thompson and their children, Jebby and Leah Thompson; daughter Meredith O'Connor, Dr. Michael O'Connor and their sons Michael, Kristin O'Connor and Christopher O'Connor and his companion Meagan McComb; son Dr. Chris Chapman, Judy, and their sons Chris, Jamie Chapman and their children, Shane, Avery and Jane; Jeremy Chapman, Lauren, and sons JC, Julian and Jacob, and Ian Chapman. Jane is survived by her brother William Buckley and his wife Judy of RI. She is also survived by several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and granddaughter, Sunny Thompson. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newman Center in Plattsburgh. Interment will be announced later in the year. Her family would like to express their deep gratitude to her recent caregivers, as well as to the wonderful staff from Hospice of the North Country, R5 and 7 at CVPH and the staff and personnel at Meadowbrook Healthcare. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Jane's special charity, The Interfaith Food Shelf. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
