Morrisonville Mrs. Janice A. Opal, 63, of Rand Hill Road in Morrisonville, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014 at her home with family be her side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country. She was born in the Albany, N.Y. area on March 12, 1951, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Beals) Franklin. Janice graduated from the Memorial School of Nursing with High Honors. She then dedicated over 41 years of her life as a Registered Professional Nurse mostly in the Maternity and Delivery Units at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady and CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. For the last 6 years of her career, she served as a mentor and educator for CVPH. She was a member of the Susan G. Komen Organization and served as a Plattsburgh Board Member, she was involved in the Casting for Recovery Program, and most recently was involved in Trout Unlimited, especially the Women's Initiative. She enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherwoman. Janice was also active in the Mayor's Cup Bike Race for many years. She had very traditional values and was well known for her cooking, baking, special recipes, and the special remembrances she shared with her family. She is survived by her husband Jeffery Opal, her mother Anna Franklin, her brothers and their wives; James and Theresa Franklin, Robert and Mary Jo Franklin, her nieces and nephews; Stephanie, Christina, Sean and Erik, J.R., Lydia and Will, her mother in law Muriel Opal, her brothers in law and sister in law; Greg Opal, Claudia and Bill Fitzgerald, and Frank Caccia. She was predeceased by her father, Walter Franklin, brother David Franklin, her father in law William Opal, and her sister in law, Roxanne Opal-Caccia. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A celebration of her life will follow at 4:00 pm in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial donations may be offered to the Susan B. Komen Foundation or the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
