Janice P. “Jan” Pauling, 93, of Plattsburgh, passed away peacefully at her Lake Forest home on Wednesday,
October 5, 2022. She was born in Newport, NH on May 26, 1929, the daughter of the late Merton
and Florence (Bly) Perkins. Even though she resided in New York most of her life, she was a
true New Englander at heart never losing her characteristic accent.
Jan excelled as a caregiver and had a 42-year career as a Registered Nurse being employed at CVPH Medical
Center for many of those years. She embraced life and never missed an opportunity to socialize with
family and friends. She had a huge heart and devoted countless hours volunteering wherever there was
a need.
She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church and took pride in being actively involved
in numerous Church Ministries. Jan loved her quilting, knitting (Knit and Twit), card making, gardening,
her birds, and beloved late cat, Herbie. She enthusiastically participated in many of the Town of Plattsburgh’s
recreational activities. At age 85, she was even kayaking on the Saranac River.
Jan loved her family. She is survived by her daughter Karen (Bruce) Pauling-Shepard of Calgary,
Alberta, a daughter-in-law; Patricia Pauling of Adams, NY., 5 grandchildren; Jennifer (Mitch) Schwartz, Andrew,
Jacob, Zachary, Harrison, a great granddaughter, Adeline Schwartz, a niece, and several nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Norman W. (Bill) Pauling Jr., her brother Richard Perkins,
and most recently, her son Philip M. Pauling. Jan was also blessed with her wonderful (second family) Beth, Tim,
Cathy, and Eric. She was truly grateful for the awesome care she received from Mary, Heather, Rosa, Nancy, and
Becca from Tender Care Home Health Service.
