Jay LaForest, Jr. 85, of Sciota, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Sciota on August 11, 1936 the son of Jay and Elsie (Mayo) LaForest, Sr.
Jay retired from Wyeth-Ayerest. He owned and operated LaForest Sno-Jet snowmobile sales. Jay enjoyed mechanical work and working on motors, carpentry, generally fixing anything that need to be fixed. He loved deer hunting at camp, fishing and splitting wood at the shop, listening to the radio in the garage, being with his grandkids and great grandkids, and trips to Ohio to see his brother and his wife. He also enjoyed sitting in the garage talking about the old days with his good friend Phil.
He was predeceased by his parents, two sons; Trent and Todd LaForest and his siblings; Roland Laforest, Gordon Laforest, Sandra Timmons, Joan Girard, Gloria Wike, Barbara Laforest and his great granddaughter Tori Lynn.
Jay is survived by his wife of 69 years Ethel Laforest, his children; Terry “Joe” (Ruth) LaForest of Sciota, Tony “Bubs” (Donna) LaForest of Sciota, Timothy “Hap” (Chris) LaForest of Sciota, Hope LaForest of Beekmantown, Julie (James) Jubert of Altona, his siblings:, Larry (Jill) LaForest of Dayton, Ohio, Margaret “Peg” (George) of Rouses Point, Betty Miner of West Chazy, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
Jay’s family would like to extend gratitude to Hospice, especially nurses, Heather, Chris and Katie as well as Dr. Maurice Racine and Dr. Joel Wolkowicz and their staff.
