PLATTSBURGH - Jean Duquette, 84, a strong-willed pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on May 30th at UVM Medical center surrounded by her entire family. She was born in Plattsburgh on July 21,1939 to Edward and Leta (Guerin) Gokey. Jean married the love of her life Kennth J. Duquette on October 21, 1958, at Holy Angels Church in Altona, NY. She graduated from Altona Central School in 1956 and OLVA Secretarial School in 1957. She decided to be a stay-at-home mom to her children until 1974 when she started at SUNY Plattsburgh in the computer department as a keyboard operator. Shortly after, she started her career of 33 years for Clinton County Government Center working in the Treasurer’s office for 23 years and finally her last 10 years at Social Services in the Data Entry Department, where she made many friends and found joy in a job that truly helped people as an act of service. She was an active member of the Auxiliary for St. Alexander’s Church for many years. Upon retiring, Jean spent her time caring for her six grandchildren, walking around her neighborhood, and enjoying the sunshine at her home in Parish, Florida. Always full of energy, she could usually be found crocheting a new blanket, crafting house decorations, or meticulously trimming her shrubs. She was a passionate NY Mets fan and never missed a game - or any of her grandchildren’s games or performances. Jean was also a very active member of her church, St. Alexander’s in Morrisonville. Jean was the anchor of her family, providing stability to her children and grandchildren over the years. She is survived by her sister Carolyn (Christopher) Belair of Altona, her daughters Jody Carpenter (Scott) and Tammy Menard (Darryl), and her six grandchildren: Courtney and Lauryn Menard, Ashley and Mackenzie Carpenter, and Sarah and Cory Duquette. Her daughter in law Tammy Duquette, Sister-in-laws Rose Duquette, Deanna Duquette and Donna Duquette. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Leta Gokey, husband Kenneth, her son Daniel, and her brother Vernon and sister-in-law Marrianne Gokey of Long Island, brothers-in-law Donald Duquette, Robert (Phyllis) Duquette, Gerald Duquette, and Ralph Duquette.
