Joan M Duchin

Joan M. Duchin, 76, passed away at her home on Sunday December 15, 2019 after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Plattsburgh on March 26, 1943. Her parents Bernard and AnnaMae ( Rock) Amell predeceased her.
Joan retired from CVPH Medical Center in 2004 after 31 years and continued to volunteer at CVPH-UVM for many years. She enjoyed her winter months in The Villages FL where she developed many close friendships and spent her summer months with her friends and family in Plattsburgh.
Joan was predeceased by her husband Jerry G. Myers in 1983 after 21 years of marriage. She was married to Harvey E. Duchin, MD in 1992 and shared many happy years with him until his passing in 2007. She was fortunate to have found love twice.
Survivors include her beloved family. Two daughters, Gina Rickert and her husband Walter of Peru, Alita Desso and her husband Mark of Plattsburgh. Three grandchildren, Austin and wife Shelly Rickert of Plymouth MA, Marnie Rickert and fiancé Spencer Andrews of East Wareham MA, and Keith Desso of Plattsburgh. Two sisters, Nancy Barcomb and Connie Barcomb both of Plattsburgh, and her father Bernard’s second wife Shirley Amell of Plattsburgh.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 20, 2019 at 12:00 noon John XXIII Newman Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA in Peru NY or Hospice of the North Country in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
