Joan Elizabeth (Venne) Herron April 2, 1936 – March 16, 2020
A graduate of Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing, she became a licensed RN April 2, 1956.
Joan met the love of her life in the apple orchard in Peru and married Hugh Herron on July 16, 1956. Joan and Hugh created six beautiful children, who survive her, and those children brought more love into Joan’s home with six amazing spouses: Pamela and John Mahlie, Hugh and Cheryl Herron, Timothy and Linda Herron, Michelle and Rod Frechette, Bruce and Cyndi Herron and Holly and Edward Schmitt. Those families include 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was a pediatric RN more than 20 years at CVPH medical center and became Clinton County’s “Mrs. Yuck”, the poison control children’s educator. Her love for children was limitless.
She supported community in many ways, most notably as a trustee, choir member, religion teacher and volunteer for St. James Parish, her home parish for most of her life. She also was a leader in fire department auxiliary and charter member of the Adirondack Doll Club. Hugh and Joan loved sharing their love of antiques with local school children, dressing in vintage clothing, spinning yarn on spinning wheels, and teaching about old dolls, fire equipment and all kinds of household tools.
She was known for her tremendous giving and non-judgmental love for all. She taught her children to “buck up” which resulted in them becoming the remarkable professionals and parents they are today. Pre-deceased by her parents, Margaret and Addison Venne, and her husband and also survived by her brother and his wife, Victor and Beverly Venne.
