Joan Ann Hughes, 73, of Halsey Court, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City with family by her side. She was born in Plattsburgh on January 31, 1944, the daughter of the late Norman and Anne (Chenevert) Gamache. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Beth Gebo, Wendell and Pam Hughes, Rob Hughes, Randy Hughes and companion Traci LaPorte, all of Plattsburgh, Lance and Tracy Hughes of Middle Village, N.Y., her sisters in law; Shirley Renadette, Edith Parker, Ruby Hughes and Madelyn Gamache, her grandchildren; Kyle, Lukas, Mallory, Angelea, Caitlin, Jonathan, Ryan, and Taylor, and several nieces and nephews. Her husband and soulmate Wendell Hughes passed away earlier. Her brothers, Norman, Ronald and James Gamache and a granddaughter Chelsea Rose also passed away earlier. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Dragoon Cemetery in Sciota. A Celebration of her Life will follow at the QWL Building in Altona. Memorial donations may be offered to the Lung Transplant Foundation (lungtransplantfoundation.org) or to Teddys Wish for S.I.D.S.
