On June 16, 2022, Joan Marlene Lacey (nee Civik) slipped the bonds of Earth to go to her eternal rest in the arms of Jesus Christ, Our Lord. She was born October 26, 1931 to Mabel Elizabeth Civik (nee Garrow) and Francis Xavier Civik.
Joan was a wonderful mother, loving sister and friend.
Joan worked at the Teresian House on Washington Ave Ext in Albany as a cafeteria worker until age 84. Prior to the Teresian House, she worked as a cafeteria worker at Meadowbrook in Plattsburgh, NY and was also head morning cook for quite a while at the former Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
After retiring from the Teresian House, Joan enjoyed the simple things in life such as family, friends, good neighbors, watching General Hospital and mischievous felines.
During the pandemic she lived with her daughter and they supported each other during these difficult times. She was a good citizen taking an avid interest in the 2020 election and standing in line to vote in spite of mobility issues. She would take walks around the neighborhood with her daughter and loved to greet the neighbors stopping frequently to chat.
Joan is predeceased by her loving husband, Patrick J. Lacey, her cherished brother, Frank X Cwik, her parents, her sister-in-law’s incredible husband, Roger Lemieux as well as her beautiful pets Poncho, Micky, Krissy, Callie and Katie.
Joan is survived by her son Mark A. Civik of Iola, Wisconsin, her daughter-in-law Diane Civik, her grandchildren RaJean (Brent) and Vic (Sarah) as well as great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Joan is also survived by her sister, Hope Ann Harvey of Pine River, Wisconsin, her cousin Sandra Banker (Ronald) in Peru and her in-laws in Plattsburgh: Katherine Lemieux, Elizabeth Manor (Armand), D. Robert Lacey (Sally), and Dawn Bruso (Steve). Additional surviving family include her daughter Laurie Lacey who resides in Guilderland as well as a niece by marriage, Julia Febo, who resides in Glenville. Laurie and Julie were there at the end when she slipped away peacefully. The family extends many thanks to the staff of Community Hospice as well as the doctors, nurses and patient techs of Ellis Hospital.
We can honor Joan by cherishing every moment in life spent with family and friends. She would encourage us to lead healthy lives, if possible, and to not smoke and not to drink excessively.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the Animal Protective Foundation of Scotia, NY or Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany. Please adopt a pet if you can – she loved black and white cats.
Joan will be missed more than words can say. Mark and Laurie love you Mom…
