Joan C Rowlson, 75 of Plattsburgh, passed away Monday, January 6th, 2025 at the University of Vermont Health Network, CVPH, after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. Joan grew up in Lyon Mountain, the daughter of George and Thelma (Vincent) Carron. She attended Clinton Community College where she majored in Criminal Justice. Joan was a bank teller in her early life and later joined the New York State Department of Corrections as a Correction Officer. She worked at Fishkill Correctional, Clinton Correctional, and Chateguay Correctional Facility, from where she retired in 1998. Joan earned her bachelor’s degree in 1993 from SUNY Plattsburgh with a major in Psychology. Most recently, Joan was very proud to be a substitute teacher for the Plattsburgh City School District. Joan was proudest of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was always a fierce supporter of all their endeavors. She was also especially fond of her two Sphinx cats, Jesabelle and Rosalee. Joan is survived by two siblings, Judith Young and Robert Upton. She is also survived by her daughter, Barbara Vandyck; her son, Bradley Kiroy; daughter-in-law, Brandy Kiroy and stepson, Richard Kiroy; Grandchildren, Cassandra Bezio, Jesse Bezio, Max Vandyck, Katie Vandyck, Samuel Vandyck, Fahlin Kiroy, Rans Kiroy and, Ria Walsh; two great-grandchildren, Remi Bezio and Greyson Bezio as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Thelma Upton, father, George Carron, stepfather, Kenneth Upton, sister, Barbara Welch, brother, Frank Carron, and son-in-law, Dr. Timothy Vandyck. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 10th, 2025 at Noon at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery later in the year.
