Plattsburgh John E. Bishop, Jr., 76, of Genesee Lane, Plattsburgh, NY passed away on Thursday September 8, 2011 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with family by his side. He was born in Saranac Lake, NY on February 10, 1935 the son of John and Elizabeth (Short) Bishop, Sr. John enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, went on to serve his country for twenty years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then went on to work at Aubuchon Hardware for eleven years, first at the North Country Shopping Center and then in Champlain where he was manager. He was the manager at the You Fix-It Shop on Plattsburgh Air Force Base until the Base closed. John enjoyed carving, woodworking, playing guitar, traveling, eating spaghetti and spending time with family and friends. John was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Plattsburgh, a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #179, a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1466 and a Life Member of the American Legion Post #20. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings George, Robert "Butch", Bertha, Patricia and Martha. John is survived by his wife of fifty four years Judy (Porter) Bishop of Plattsburgh; one daughter Debra Bishop and her husband Jay of Sudbury, Massachusetts; four sons; Richard Bishop and his wife Denise of Decatur, Alabama, Michael J. Bishop and his wife Paula Rose of El Sobrante, California, CMSgt. Ronald G. Bishop and his wife Brenda of Barksdale AFB, LA and Daniel Bishop and his wife Wendie of Plattsburgh, New York; five sisters, Bernice Cressey of Plattsburgh, New York, Frances Gushlaw and her husband Ernie of Florida, Rita Ramsey and her husband Jim, of Olathe, Kansas, Faith Haight of Schenectady and Linda Darrah and her husband Rick of Plattsburgh, New York, his twin brother, James E. Bishop of Plattsburgh, New York and a half brother Larry Velie and his wife Judy of Peru, New York; eleven grandchildren, Christopher Bishop and his wife Melanie, Kristen Bergeson and her husband Luke, Chad, Mandy, Jonathan, Bethany, Angelina, Egor, Tyler, Bailey and Natasha, a great grand daughter Natalie, several nieces and nephews also survive him. Funeral services with full military honors will be private and at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be at Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.
