John Francis Day

John Francis Day, 53, of Route 3, Saranac, NY, passed away on Sunday September 25, 2016 at his home. He was born in Delhi, NY on May 18, 1963 the son of Fredrick and Elizabeth (Eigner) Day. John graduated from Guilderland High School in 1981 and Ohio Diesel Tech in Cleveland, Ohio in 1983. He married the love of his life Donna Byrne on September 22, 1984 at St. Philomena's Church in Cleveland, OH and soon after moved to Saranac, NY. John owned Excel Transmissions in Plattsburgh for over 25 years. He was an avid hunter, he enjoyed sharing his interest of cars and mechanics, taking his girls to horse riding events around the country and spending time with his grandchildren. John is survived by his wife Donna Day of Saranac, his parents; Fredrick Day of San Diego, CA, Elizabeth Day of Albany, NY his daughters; Julia Rushford and her husband Dale of Saranac Lake, Terra Ellis and her husband Jerod of Freedom, NY, Patricia Brown and her husband Todd of Sugar Bush, NY, Kelly Samolis and her husband Victor of Saranac, all formerly known as the "Day Girls", seven grandchildren; George and Charles Rushford, Alivia, Hailee and Anna Ellis, Jack and Stella Brown, his siblings; Margaret Lloyd, Mary Regatuso, Michelle Teal, Lillian Day and William Day, several nieces and nephews also survive him along with many others that called him dad. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday September 28, 2016 from 4:00 to7:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday September 29, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.
