John F Hughes

John F. Hughes, 75, of Plattsburgh, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2023 at UVHN:CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born Tuesday, March 30, 1948 , the son of Frederick Hughes and Virginia Hughes John's love of golf was always in his heart. He learned how to play when his family lived in Hawaii as his father was a Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corp. and the family was stationed there for quite a few years. His family moved to Chicago and joined his grandfather's business in wholesale furniture. John lived in Chicago for at least 25 years. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and was able to see them at Soldiers Field when they had a home game. John married and had one son, Philip John Hughes, who he adored. John and family moved back to Hawaii where Philip enjoyed growing up! John was divorced in 1999 and went on to enjoy his life in Plattsburgh NY where his son and ex-wife lived. John and his ex-wife remained friends as they co-parented Philip. John is survived by Philip John Hughes (son) and his husband Zachary Paynter. Also his ex-wife Debbie Cerone Hughes and his dear friend and companion of several years Christine Lemieux. He is predeceased by his parents Frederick Hughes and Virginia Hughes also his sister Barbara Stanitz. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of John may be made to Friends of CVPH Fitzpatrick Cancer Center or North Country Cancer Fund. Calling hours will be held on Friday December 1, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel, inurnment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery.
