John D Rugar (Jack), passed away March 18th at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation with his family by his side. He lived a full 86 years, having served almost 37 years as a Correction Officer with NYDOCS. Often mistaken for a civilian worker, he ran the machine shop at Clinton Correctional with pride and honor. In his spare time, Jack was a jack of all trades, most notable, he assisted in construction of the 1980 Olympic bobsleds, and was often part of building many local race cars, but was most proud of his time spent on the #66 car driven by Bob Bruno. Jack was a founding member of Big Horn hunting club, joining in just their second year of operation and still enjoyed a drive around the property to see the deer. Jack was a friend to all, and a staple around the town of Dannemora, where the locals will surely miss seeing his big white truck, his John Deer riding mower and his Kubota snow blower that was often seen helping any neighbor in need. There wasn’t a man of fewer words or a bigger heart, and his void will be felt for years to come. Left to treasure his memories are his long time companion, Judi Lynch, his sons, John (Jack) Rugar, and his wife Sherri, his son Jeffery (Jeff), and his wife Michelle, and Jacks two grandchildren, Morgan Rugar, and and her fiancé, Davis Shoener, and his “Little Champion” Matthew (Matt) Rugar. Jack enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their sports, and was their biggest fan. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family, Donations may be made in his memory to the Dannemora Fire Department. Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY.
