John F. “Jack” Jarvis, 92, of Plattsburgh, passed away, Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born in Dannemora, on January 14, 1929, the son of Felix and Elizabeth (O’Leary) Jarvis.
Jack served in the United States Navy after he graduated from high school. He managed the Jarvis Garage in Dannemora, his father’s Pontiac dealership prior to joining the NYS DOCS where he retired after 32 years of service. He and was a longtime member of the Dannemora Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Dannemora Village Board. Jack was a member of the Elks Lodge and St. John’s Parish in Plattsburgh.
He is survived by his wife Joan, of 67 years, their three children; Deborah (Gregory) Sherman, Daniel (Lesa) Jarvis and John (Cynthia) Jarvis; seven grandchildren, Allison Sherman Gardner, Nicholas Sherman, Danielle Jarvis Clark, Kate Jarvis, Jamie Jarvis, Ashley Jarvis Howard and Maegan Jarvis; and eight great grandchildren; Theodore and Thomas Gardner; Lexis, Kallen, and Piper Howard; Steele, Olivia and Jack Clark; a sister and brother-in-law Kathleen Miller and Joseph Wodjenski, and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents., and his siblings; Robert Jarvis, Marie Jackstadt and Geraldine Jarvis.
Visitation will be Monday, September 20, 2021 from 10:00-11:00am at St. John’s Church in Plattsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am. Burial will be in Divine Mercy on Cumberland Head.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
