John "Jack" S. LaValley, 91, Hartwell Street, Plattsburgh, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, with his loving family, care takers, and Hospice of the North Country by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh, New York, on November 9, 1925, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Smart) LaValley. Jack attended Plattsburgh High School until his junior year, 1944, when he left to join the United States Navy to proudly serve his country during World War II. Jack traveled the world as a Navy Signalman onboard the US landing ship LST-551. Honorably discharged in 1946, he returned to Plattsburgh and completed his degree at Plattsburgh High School. In 1949, Jack married Barbara Sullivan. He worked for New York Telephone as an installer and repairman, and retired in 1985 after 38 years of dedicated service. Jack was actively involved with his community throughout his life. He was president of the Telephone Pioneers of America, was elected to the Plattsburgh School Board, was a member of VFW Post 125 and American Legion Post 20, and was a charter member of the North Country Squares, a community square dancing group. He was a devout member and strong supporter of Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Jack enjoyed traveling, and loved playing golf with his close friends at Bluff Point. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, often taking trips with close friends to watch games in Boston. Jack's greatest pride was in raising his family of seven children. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and for his entire life was a dedicated provider for his large family. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his wife Barbara in 2004, and his seven siblings. He is survived by his seven children and their spouses: Suzanne LaValley of Cadyville, NY; John "Jack" (Wha ja) LaValley of Irvington, NY; Steven (Antonette) LaValley of Cape Coral, FL; Janet LaValley of Jersey City, NJ; Patricia (Geoff Hargadon) LaValley of Somerville, MA; Lori (Joe) Provost of Plattsburgh; and Lisa (Dayne) Wahl of Providence, RI.
