John T Maddix

June 12, 1934 — December 11, 2021

Mr. John Thomas Maddix, 87 of St. John’s Place, Cliff Haven, passed away Saturday, Dec 11, 2021, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Nashville, Tenn., June 12, 1934, the son of John Maddix Jr and Bessie Marie (Jackson) Maddix.

He attended Pearl Senior High School, June 1951, Nashville,Tenn; the Community College of the air Force, Associates degree, General Electronics
Technology, graduated April 1980; University of Vermont and Plattsburgh State University graduated with Bachelor of Science degree (Physics), 1986.

He was employed in various jobs early on but served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1980 retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then worked at IBM, Essex Junction, VT from 1980 to 1996 as first a Laboratory Specialist and then as an Engineer/Scientist in Failure Analysis.

He was predeceased by his wife Myrtle L. Maddix who passed away in 2008, he is survived by his five sons, Jonathan L., Christopher M., Michael A., Patrick E. and Martin L.; his grandchildren, Chantelle Marie, Alexander Jean-Luc, Sadie Elizabeth, Isaiah Michael Thomas, Marcus Johan, Kaylee Louise, Patrick Thomas-Evers, Kiana Marie; and several nieces and nephews.

He has many siblings including a brother: Stanley Lee (deceased) and a half-brother Dennis Maddix (St. Paul, Minn); half-sisters Barbara Maddix (St. Paul, Minn), Peggy Hicks (St. Paul, Minn), Kathy (Maddix) Wragg (Canton, MI) and Jacquie Maddix (St. Paul, Minn).

He was a great piano and guitar player, playing everything from Bach, to Chopin, Rachmaninoff to playing for a local church. He also did research on his own in several areas of Physics. And had several Patents while working at IBM. He was a person who loved to keep his mind busy and inspired many others in family and friends to keep learning new things.

Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
